Google Maps apologizes for ‘Dump Tower’ and other inappropriate names that surfaced on Saturday

Google Maps changed the name of “Trump Tower,” the place where the president-elect Donald Trump lives and works, to “Dump Tower” for a few hours. Users of the service began noticing the name change at around 2:00 P.M. Saturday and tweeted it.

In addition. Trump International Hotel & Tower was also changed from “Trump” to “Dump,” Pix 11 reported.

A Google Maps spokeswoman told The Associated Press that contributes alerted the popular mapping service of the alteration and they changed it back to its correct name shortly thereafter.

“Some inappropriate names were surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused. Our teams immediately took action and have fixed the issue,” a statement released by Google Maps said.

The president-elect has been using Trump Tower as his transition team headquarters since he was declared the winner of the presidential election earlier this month.
