Four University of Kansas cheerleaders were not cheering their team on at Tuesday night’s game against Georgia because of a photo that was posted to Snapchat that linked the Ku Klux Klan to President-elect Donald Trump.
It depicted three male cheerleaders, each wearing “K” holiday letter sweaters, with the inscription “KKK go Trump.”
The photo was posted by Kansas cheerleader Lili Gagin, who was suspended along with the three males, and the athletics department tweeted that the behavior was “unacceptable,” and in an update reported that all four squad members had been suspended.

Fox 4 Kansas City reported:
While many people on campus believe the photo was intentional, the mother of one of the male cheerleaders said there was no racial motivation, and the boys were just taking a photo in sweaters they have had for a long time.
She also said the female’s phone was stolen, something students on campus have also heard.
“Some of the arguments you see are her friends saying that, you know, someone else edited it. She didn’t have her phone,” an unidentified KU student told the station. “What my thing is, if we fail to act on this properly rather if it was purposeful or not, directly or indirectly, it’s still related to a racist past, therefore someone has to suffer consequences.”
Of those who believed the photo was purposely taken, inscribed and posted, some called it a sign that the university was racist, others claimed that it was an opinion that Trump was racist.

Gagibn later apologized for the incident without admitting responsibility.
“I’m appalled that a snapchat was put out on my snapchat and posted on my account,” she posted on Twitter. “I would never of done that & I apologize that it happened.”
