Like every liberal in America, documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is more than a little upset at Tuesday’s historic election results. The next day, Moore posted a “Morning After To-Do List” to his Facebook page that, as of this writing, had been liked more than 446,000 times, shared on more than 205,000 other pages, and commented on over 21,000 times.
From a liberal, populist Democratic perspective, Moore’s post is an eye-opening wake-up call to his fellow comrades in arms (and I don’t use the term “comrade” lightly).
The first item? “Take over the Democratic Party and return it to the people.”
Moore’s next steps are to “Fire all pundits, predictors, pollsters and anyone else in the media who had a narrative they wouldn’t let go of and refused to listen to or acknowledge what was really going on,” as well as for Democratic leaders to “fight, resist and obstruct” Trump in the same way Republicans did to Obama.
Item number four, however, is likely a bitter pill for Democrats who are surprised by the election’s outcome.
4. Everyone must stop saying they are “stunned” and “shocked”. What you mean to say is that you were in a bubble and weren’t paying attention to your fellow Americans and their despair. YEARS of being neglected by both parties, the anger and the need for revenge against the system only grew. Along came a TV star they liked whose plan was to destroy both parties and tell them all “You’re fired!” Trump’s victory is no surprise. He was never a joke. Treating him as one only strengthened him. He is both a creature and a creation of the media and the media will never own that.
It’s a message similar to the one in Moore’s film “Michael Moore in Trumpland,” in which he said of America’s forgotten worker:
They have essentially lost everything they had…except one thing. The one thing that doesn’t cost them a cent and is guaranteed to them by the American Constitution: the right to vote.
They might be penniless. They might be homeless. They might be f**ked over and f**ked up. It doesn’t matter because it is equalized on that day. A millionaire has the same number of votes as a person without a job: ONE.
And there is more of the former middle-class than there are in the millionaire class. So, on November 8th, the dispossessed will walk into the voting booth, be handed a ballot, close the curtain, take that lever — or felt pen or touchscreen — and put a big f**king X in the box by the name of the man who has threatened to upend and overturn the very system that has ruined their lives: Donald J. Trump.
But there is no bond that brings Donald Trump and his supporters closer than their common enemies.
They see that the elites who have ruined their lives hate Trump.
Corporate America hates Trump.
Wall Street hates Trump.
The career politicians hate Trump.
The Media hates Trump…after they loved him and created him. Now, they hate him. Thank you, Media.
The enemy of my enemy is who I am voting for on November 8th.
Yes, on November 8th, YOU — Joe Blow, Steve Blow, Bob Blow, Billy Blow, Billy Bob Blow, all the Blows — get to go and blow up the whole goddamn system because it’s your right.
Trump’s election is going to be the biggest F**K YOU ever recorded in human history.
And it will feel good.
On that point, Michael Moore the pundit was as right as he’s ever been in his life.
