America, meet the Deplorables.
Donald Trump took full advantage of Hillary Clinton’s attempt to insult his supporters, bringing a group of people onstage at a rally in Asheville, N.C.
The Democratic presidential nominee has taken a lot of heat for saying last week that “you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.” But Trump fired back in his own way by letting his supporters address Clinton in their own words.
“I am probably a lot of things,” said one woman on the stage at the U.S. Cellular Center on Monday. “Deplorable is not one of them.”
“I’m a wife, a mother and I work full-time,” said another woman. “I am voting for Donald Trump and Mrs. Clinton, you can go home!”
One by one, the men and women on the stage addressed the cheering crowd.
“After all the scandals that Hillary Clinton has been involved in and she has the gall to call us deplorable,” said one man.
Clinton’s remark backfired in a big way as Trump supporters have rallied around the insult and given it a life of its own.
