Since creating kill — er — gun-free zones at schools is about as ridiculous as charging a horde of ISIS fighters wearing a “don’t shoot me” sign, the community of Claude, Texas, decided to try something different.
First, have the school board vote allow conceal carry on campus: Check.
Next, erect bad-ass signs all around the district serving notice to any scumbag who gets a notion to make trouble: Double check.
The signs, in bold red, read:
“ATTENTION: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE STAFF AT CLAUDE ISD IS ARMED AND MAY USE WHATEVER FORCE NECESSARY TO PROTECT OUR STUDENTS.”

KFDA reports that Claude Independent School District Superintendent Jeff Byrd said the signs are meant to be a deterrent, like an alarm or “beware of dog” sign, not a threat.
“Any employee at Claude ISD, any teacher, I feel firmly they would give their life to save a child. Our job is to make sure the kids are safe, that they are comfortable and secure,” Byrd said.
“Statistics will show that most of the shootings that have occurred in public school have been some what a copycat situation,” Byrd told the Amarillo television station. “The goal of the perpetrators is to out-do the last shooting and statistics have shown people with warning signs are being proactive and preventative, the only reason the sign is there is to prevent somebody from coming in.”
Byrd notes that since the tiny town of Claude doesn’t have a police department, armed staff would be critical to protecting students should there be an active shooter situation. “If there were a perpetrator that entered our building we would be able to hold of the building until the professionals got here.”
By turning the entire “Gun-Free Zone” notion on its head, our guess is Claude, Texas, might have actually created the most unlikely stop for any vicious killer intent on finding helpless fish in a barrel to murder.
Good for them. Every school district in the nation should follow suit!
