The Republican convention’s benediction, delivered by South Carolina Pastor Mark Burns, was a bit of a shocker to some viewers, as he took on Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.
PJTV video host Scott Ott:
Shameful, Hellish “prayer” by Pastor Mark Burns of SC. “Our enemy is Hillary Clinton and the Democrats.” #RNC @GOP
— Scott Ott (@Scott_Ott) July 18, 2016
Yahoo News’ Amy Sullivan agreed, and posted a transcript of his remarks:
1/ I’ve heard a lot of prayers by religious leaders of different faiths at RNCs & DNCs. But nothing like this. pic.twitter.com/RYfpn58TNi

Here’s the video of his “benediction.”
This was the “prayer” to start the #RNCinCLE
Easily the most anger and lies I’ve ever heard in a prayer. pic.twitter.com/0rjlYrCVDF— Ethan Embry (@EmbryEthan) July 18, 2016
People were dumbstruck.
@elizabethjdias I’ve never heard a benediction used to curse your enemies like Pastor Mark Burns just did. A true benediction is a blessing.

@KedronBardwell @eventestes @elizabethjdias Mark Burns? He’s a disgusting idiot.

@KedronBardwell @elizabethjdias Disgusting. #RNCinCLE So anti-Christian that it’s laughable.

@KedronBardwell @elizabethjdias exactly, you’re supposed to bless them that curse you, his words will come back to him
— Soso Steward (@sophagazelle) July 19, 2016
@KedronBardwell @elizabethjdias Perhaps you should read the Psalms. But you’ve likely never opened a Bible before.

@rumpfshaker Cardinal Nolan’s in ’12 was far superior. Beseeching God’s blessings while talking about crushing political enemies? Yikes.

@Scott_Ott @PatrickRuffini @GOP they are our opponents, not our enemies, you horses asses @Reince
— Infinite Parantheses (@mikeavent) July 18, 2016
@sullivanamy @JeffreyGoldberg Jesus was a Republican? Who knew?
— Puddin’ Head J (@PuddinHeadJ) July 18, 2016
@Scott_Ott @GOP nauseating.

This was just one more indication that 2016 is turning out to be one of the most unusual election years America has witnessed in recent memory.
