On Friday, the state of Texas and 25 other states enjoyed a rare (for conservatives) Supreme Court “victory” in the matter of whether or not President Obama is allowed to grant de facto amnesty to over 5 million illegal immigrants. By refusing to hear the case, the wise decision of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit was, at least for the time being, affirmed.
Fortunately, in this case the appeals court sided with common sense and the Law, but it could just as easily gone the other way. Had the 5th Circuit, or another court, ruled the other direction, the decision would have still been upheld by a sharply divided Supreme Court on the basis of the very same 4-4 tie by which we “won” this decision.
Make no mistake, those of us in favor of liberty, of limited government, of separation of powers, of abiding by the Constitution aren’t just treading water, we are hanging by a thread.
Chief Justice Roberts is undependable at best. Fortunately, the rumors of Justice Thomas’s retirement were premature, but he is still 68. When Justice Scalia was taken from us, we lost far more than a brilliant jurist, we lost one of three near-constant votes of sanity (Thomas and Alito being the others) on a court nearly overrun with, it seems, dedicated Marxists. These are people who WILL, every single time they are given the opportunity, vote to take away your liberty.
Given the chance, they will ‘decide,’ purely on the merits of their own twisted views of how things should be, that the Second Amendment doesn’t really give ordinary citizens the right to bear arms. They will ‘discover,’ somewhere, maybe in the invisible ink that resides in between the paragraphs of the Constitution, that the rights of citizenship, and with it the right to vote, belongs to every Third World denizen who manages to sneak across our borders.
You name any sick, twisted, interpretation of the law that further destroys the original intent of the framers of the Constitution and indeed the fabric of American society and you can bet your house the liberals presently on the Supreme Court – along with any individuals Hillary Clinton, should she win, appoints – WILL vote in that direction.
In other words, it won’t be right, it won’t be fair, it won’t even make sense, but if the liberals get a Supreme Court supermajority we can kiss our liberties goodbye (well, except for gay marriage – we’ll always have THAT ‘liberty’).
If you are one of the few with good intentions who remain in the #NeverTrump camp because of your genuinely held principles, it’s beyond time to reconsider those because, let’s face it, in this case your ‘principles’ are accomplishing absolutely nothing and in fact are counterproductive. The boat is sinking and we’re taking on water fast. These 5 million illegals were on the verge of being granted permanent residency status. The next step would have been the vote, and we all know who that ‘vote’ would go to.
It’s high time Americans stood up for their own interests and for the interests of their people over the elites and the rest of the world. It’s time we put America first.
Donald Trump is far from the perfect candidate, but he promises to put Constructionists on the Supreme Court. Even if you don’t like some of his other positions, because of this unique time in American history that’s enough to keep the boat afloat for now. And that should be enough to bring even the most ardent anti-Trumper on the train, at least for a while.
