Nevermind Donald Trump, these days it seems like every time South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham opens his mouth he manages to insert a bigger and bigger foot. Or perhaps he is just continuing to show everyone his true colors …
In a Monday speech at the New American Security’s conference, Graham spoke about the sequestration cuts the next commander-in-chief will have to deal with, particularly regarding the defense budget (or in Graham’s case, the ‘wasteful, counter-productive and pointless foreign interventions budget,’ but why quibble?).
And who will that commander-in-chief be?
“The next president, whoever he or she — most likely she — is going to be, needs to get these defense cuts set aside. We need to buy back sequestration following the formula of the supercommittee where you have some revenue to buy back sequestration, defense and non-defense.”
Predictably, Graham was sharply critical of Trump’s defense policy, saying.
“The bottom line: I think there’s a fight within the Republican Party for who we are on foreign policy, from the Rand Paul view to the Lindsey Graham, John McCain view. And Trump’s somewhere out there, somewhere saying something, I don’t know where he’s at. So, so, I think there’s a more traditional view of foreign policy emerging on the Republican side. It’s one of the reasons I wanted to run for president.”
Graham, who reluctantly ‘endorsed’ Trump in May, backtracked after Trump’s questions about the partiality of Mexican-American Judge Gonzalo Curiel and is now encouraging other Republicans to drop their endorsements, presumably in favor of … Hillary Clinton?
Lindsey, why don’t you just get it over with and change parties?
