Singer-songwriter John Legend seems determined to prove Ronald Reagan right for once declaring that “the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”

In a recent interview with Variety, the ten-time Grammy Award winner and staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton compared Donald Trump supporters to people who allowed slavery.

“We are in a moment now where we have a major candidate for office who is being very racist and divisive in a very public way,” Legend told Variety. “I feel the need to call that out all the time because I don’t want us to feel like it’s impossible for our nation to go back to another dark place. I think we can slip into that if we let the wrong person take over and impose the wrong regime on this country.”

It’s bad enough that Legend insinuates that slavery may reemerge in America in the 21st century, but he goes on to compare Trump supporters to people in the 1800s.

“I’m sure people in 1800s didn’t think they were evil people,” the recording artist said, “but they allowed an evil institution to last for quite a long time.”

Legend seems to lose sight of the fact that slave holders in the 1800’s were mostly southern Democrats.

Either that or he is not aware of this reality.

He also seems to be unaware that Republicans — and conservatives who believe in limited government and individual liberty — have never supported slavery.

But Legend has the “diversity” talking points down pat.

“We, as people who believe in equality and diversity and believe that every human being in this life matters, we need to be vigilant in making sure that we don’t elect leaders who are contradicting that belief,” he added.

Keep in mind that not only has Legend helped raise money for Clinton, he has also attacked Trump on social media more than once for being a racist.
