MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews took issue with President Obama criticizing Donald Trump while in Japan, saying that foreign countries are the wrong venue for political mud-slinging.
“They are not sure how seriously to take some of his pronouncements,” Obama said Thursday at a press conference at the G-7 summit in Japan. ”But they’re rattled by him, and for good reason, because a lot of the proposals that he’s made display either ignorance of world affairs or a cavalier attitude.”
Surprisingly, liberal Matthews didn’t care for this kind of talk against the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
“I have mixed views about world leaders and what they think, but according to a warning from President Obama this morning, you could see the president take on the Republican nominee in a much more aggressive way,” Matthews said. “I don’t like arguing American politics overseas, by the way. Let’s agree on that one.”
