Former WWE wrestler and adult film actress, Chyna, had just been signed to appear on the TV show “Intervention” but died before production could begin.
Manager Anthony Anzaldo told TMZ Sports that he had hoped an episode on the program could help Chyna get back on track before it was too late. Chyna, whose real name was Joan Laurer, was found dead in her California apartment on April 20. No cause of death has been released for the 46-year-old.
Anzaldo reached an agreement with “Intervention” and planned to have some of Chyna’s WWE friends, including Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mick Foley, participate. He told TMZ that some of Chyna’s friends had become worried in recent weeks that she was over medicating herself with prescription drugs Ambien and Valium.
“An interventionalist was already lined up as was a facility that was going to take her for 90 days,” Anzaldo said, according to TMZ.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that the entertainer’s brain would be donated for research into the degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy, known as CTE, reported CNN.
Anzaldo said her brain will be examined by groundbreaking researcher Dr. Bennet Omalu who first documented CTE in the brain of a football player and was the subject of “Concussion,” a 2015 film starring Will Smith.
According to CNN:
“CTE can result in Alzheimer’s-like symptoms such as mood swings, memory loss and rage. It can potentially lead to suicide. Researchers believe the disease is a result of repeated hits to the head that yield a buildup of an abnormal protein called tau. CTE can be definitively diagnosed only after death.”
The only undefeated Women’s Champion in the history of the World Wrestling Federation and dubbed the “Ninth Wonder of the World,” Chyna posted a video to her more than 11,000 YouTube subscribers just days before her death. Titled “Wake Up!” the video shared her morning routine, preparing a smoothie and telling fans the importance of drinking water.
“Have a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful day today,” she said at the end of the video. “And I’m sure I’ll be posting more things as this day goes on.”
