And you thought “North” was a stupid name to give a child?

In the first case of its kind, a 3-judge British appellate court unanimously upheld a family court’s order restraining a mother from registering her daughter as “Cyanide” and her son “Preacher.”

The mother, who claimed that “Cyanide” was a “lovely, pretty name” that was “responsible for killing [Adolph] Hitler and [Joseph] Goebbels and I consider that this was a good thing,” is suffering from mental health issues, The New York Post reported.

She also argued that it was her prerogative as a mother to “exercise my right to choose their names.”

The court ruled that the twins’ half-siblings will pick out the babys’ names, who are now one-year-old and in foster care.

In addition to her mental health issues, she suffers from substance abuse and has a history of entering into abusive relationships.

As for Cyanide’s fraternal twin bother, she said Preacher was a “rather cool name” with a “strong spiritual” message that would “stand my son well for the future.”

But alas, it was not to be. The Post reported:

But Lady Justice King, Lady Justice Gloster and Lord Justice David Richards ruled that, “even allowing for changes in taste, fashion and developing individual perception,” the choice of Cyanide was unacceptable.

Although they found that Preacher was not as damaging as Cyanide, the judges ruled that it was in the interest of the children that both names be changed.

Celebrities on this side of the pond seem to have a propensity for coming up with unusual names.

In addition to Kanye West’s daughter North, there’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s little girl Apple, rapper Chief Keef’s son Sno FilmOn Dot Com Cozart and Holly Madison’s daughter Rainbow Aurora.
