Once again, TheBlaze’s Tomi Lahren hit it right out of the park when she said Sen. Ted Cruz is doing that which the entire Republican field should be doing — reaching out.

She dedicated her “Final Thoughts” earlier this week to the Texas Republican’s aborted plan to visit a Bronx high school Wednesday. He was scheduled to speak at the Bronx Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy, but the event was cancelled after students protested.

“We do have to do a better job of speaking to young people, minorities, women and moderates in general,” she began.

After giving Cruz credit for at least making the attempt, she said, “This is what he was met with.”

She played a clip of a loud-mouthed teen ranting that the Texas conservative, whom he described as a bigot, doesn’t share their values and “doesn’t belong in the Bronx,” which he described as “an immigrant community” where they “deal with climate change every day!”

As a presidential candidate, Cruz belongs in the Bronx and “every community he can” to shake hands and learn everyone’s concerns, Lahren said.

“Furthermore, to assume someone is a bigot because they’re conservative is wrong,” she said. “To assume someone is racist because they are white is also wrong.”

She said it’s disingenuous to complain that conservatives don’t understand the problems encountered in minority communities if you won’t allow them in.

“How can we understand what your communities want, need and experience if you drive us away,” Lahren said.

Finally, she noted that the student in the video described the Bronx as a community of immigrants.

“Does he know that Ted Cruz is the son of immigrants?” she asked. “The road to understanding goes both ways.”
