Bomb threat empties precinct after armed black Fla teen was killed by white deputy

Angry residents confronted law enforcement after a black teen was shot and killed by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy late Saturday morning in Belle Glade, Florida, and the confrontation eventually escalated to a reported bomb threat.

The shooting occurred following a traffic stop in which Henry Bennett, 19, reportedly exited the vehicle with a weapon.

“As soon as [the deputy] put on the blue lights, the car eased into a driveway area, the door came open and an individual came out of the vehicle with what appeared to be a firearm,” said Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, according to local NBC affiliate WPTV.

The shooting occurred at about 11:45 am. Later Saturday afternoon, WPTV investigative reporter Jared Werksma tweeted:

WPTV reported:

The sheriff pointed out that Bennett has a rap sheet. That he has a history of aggravated assaults, been a suspect in a child abuse case and that he’s had restraining orders filed against him.

The sheriff says investigators will be reviewing dash cam video from the incident.
