‘Blood on their hands’: Senators fail to defund Planned Parenthood – only 2 Dems with souls?

defund_ppThe Senate bill to defund Planned Parenthood was stillborn Monday, as Republicans failed to rally enough votes to overcome a filibuster by Democrats.

In a great show of political theater, with no hope of becoming law, the GOP managed to attract only two Democrats, Sen. Joe Manchin III of West Virginia and Sen. Joe Donnelly of Indiana.  Knowing the bill had no chance for a floor vote, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell voted against the measure so that under Senate rules he can bring it up again at a later time.

With all the video evidence released, full and unedited, of Planned Parenthood officials glibly discussing aborted baby parts and fee structures with undercover journalists from the Center for Medical Progress, conservatives are gobsmacked and dismayed at Senate Democrats, who have “blood on their hands” after a shameful act of sheer denial.

Sen. Ted Cruz has criticized McConnell for not doing more to defund Planned Parenthood when the Senate had the opportunity to attach an amendment to a “must pass” highway funding bill in July.

“I believe in the power of truth, and what I intend to do is continue serving 27 million Texans and standing up and speaking the truth,” Cruz said on July 24 from the floor of the Senate. “The truth is, had the majority leader not opposed us we could have had a binding vote on defunding Planned Parenthood.

Harry Reid crowed with satisfaction that his job was made so easy.

To the horror of many who have actually seen the videos.

A few Republican presidential candidates added their disgust.

While Sen. Rand Paul, one of the most vocal leaders of the effort to defund Planned Parenthood, made a plea for funding.

And a few conservatives simply expressed shame at our elected officials for such a moral failure.
