The New York Times announced Wednesday afternoon that one of its major stars, Glenn Thrush, will keep his job after four female journalists alleged that the reporter had engaged in inappropriate behavior.
Thrush will remain suspended until “late January” and will not return to the paper’s White House team. Instead, he will be added to an unknown new beat.
NYT editor-in-chief Dean Baquet said in a statement that Thrush “behaved in ways that we do not condone,” but the paper “decided that he does not deserve to be fired.”
On top of a two-month suspension, Thrush will undergo counseling and rehabilitation for substance abuse. He will also receive training “to improve his workplace conduct,” according to TheNYT.
“We understand that our colleagues and the public at large are grappling with what constitutes sexually offensive behavior in the workplace and what consequences are appropriate,” Baquet’s statement reads. “Each case has to be evaluated based on individual circumstances. We believe this is an appropriate response to Glenn’s situation.”
The Vox article which led to Thrush’s suspension details alleged incidents in which Thrush kissed and groped women without their consent. Only one alleged victim, Laura McGann, was named in the piece.
Thrush, known for his fedora, was a vocal critic of President Donald Trump before his suspension. In September of this year, he pledged to delete his Twitter account because it was “too much of a distraction.”
Hey folks — I've decided to delete my Twitter account at midnight. Too much of a distraction. DM me for contact info. Thanks for reading!

NYT columnist Michelle Goldberg authored a column in November entitled “Franken Should Go” after the comedian-turned-senator faced similar allegations of misconduct.
