De Blasio says drunk driving, grand larceny not enough to deport; do they have to kill or rape first?

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio claimed that crimes such as driving while intoxicated and grand larceny shouldn’t result in the deportation of illegal immigrants.

He made that assessment Sunday to CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” while discussing President Trump’s plan to strip federal finding from cities offering sanctuary to those who crossed the U.S. border illegally.

New York is among those so-called sanctuary cities that would be targeted.

Tapper observed that New York City is shielding undocumented immigrants who commit what it “deemed to be lesser offenses… but include drunk driving and grand larceny.”

This is per a 2014 ordinance signed into law by de Blasio.

De Blasio for the most part ignored there question, merely stating that he didn’t want to see families torn apart.

“But is grand larceny or drunk driving a very minor offense?” Tapper asked again.

“Drunk driving that doesn’t lead to any other negative outcome, I could define as that,” the mayor said, ignoring the question about grand larceny being a minor offense.

“The vast majority of immigrants don’t commit any crimes, except for some small offense. That’s not a reason to tear apart families. That’s not going to do any good.”

Without surprise, folks on social media took exception to de Blasio’s claims.

Finally, one person observed that de Blasio’s law shielding illegals appears to give them greater rights than it does U.S. citizens.

Earlier into the interview, Tapper observed that previous presidents — including former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama — halted immigration from specific countries.

De Blasio didn’t have an answer on that one, claiming “I don’t know the details of those orders.”
