Trump-hate started 5 min. into American Music Awards; ‘racist’ Melania impression was lowest moment

Donald Trump gave up his day job for this? The honeymoon normally afforded incoming presidents isn’t just over — it never began.

That was made clear Sunday night at the American Music Awards co-hosted by Gigi Hadid and Jay Pharoah, who kicked off the show by making fun of the president-elect and his first lady.

Supermodel Hadid, gave a mocking impression of Melania Trump, complete with an over-the-top Eastern European accent. There was also a reference to prior allegations that Melania had pilfered parts of a speech made by first lady Michelle Obama by borrowing the first family as her own.

Social media had more class and decorum than did Hadid — it was not impressed.

Some noted a racist element to the mockery.

Here’s a note of irony: Hadid has apparently taken up the cause of bullying — and then decided to pull a stunt like this.

The future first lady has also commented on the issue of bullying.

“Our culture has gotten too mean and too violent,” she said last month. “It is never OK when a 12-year-old girl or boy is mocked, bullied or attacked. It is terrible when that happens on the playground and it is unacceptable when it’s done by someone with no name hiding on the internet.”

It’s also not OK at award shows, where one observed that this sort of mimicry is becoming an all-too-common substitute for class and talent.

Hadid’s co-host also had a go at a Donald Trump impression.

Back in the old days, entertainers actually entertained. That once-standard rule apparently doesn’t apply anymore.

Let’s make America great again and let the old days make a comeback.
