Islamic State is rooting for Republican nominee Donald Trump to win this year’s election, according to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Clinton claimed ISIS has put whatever little support it does have behind Trump because it believes having him in the Oval Office will rally support to the jihadi cause. She pointed to a recent article by Matthew Olsen, the former director of the National Counter-Terrorism Center, to back up her claim.
“They have, as Matt Olsen pointed out, said they hope that Allah delivers America to Trump,” said Clinton during a press conference Thursday. “They have said that they hope that he is the president, because it would give even more motivation to every jihadi.”
The press conference came the morning after Clinton and Trump were featured on NBC’s “Commander-in-Chief Forum,” and Trump’s unveiling of his 10-point national security plan.
Clinton slammed the plan for lacking a clear strategy in the fight against ISIS, saying it is “dangerous” and “disqualifying.” She added that Trump’s previous statements regarding Muslims have also empowered the terrorist group.
“Someone who has insulted Muslims, has insulted a gold star family,” said Clinton, alluding to the family of Army Capt. Humayun Khan, who was killed fighting in Iraq in 2004. “That is a gift for ISIS.”
