In 2 days, Mexico escorted almost 500 illegal Africans to US border

DC-NEWS 300X71Blake Neff, DCNF

Mexico has granted hundreds of travel visas to African migrants so that they can travel to the United States unmolested, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

A whopping 424 African migrants arrived in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas over just two days last week, after traveling up from South American countries such as Brazil. Rather than detaining the migrants, who have no legal right to be in Mexico, authorities have decided to hurry them up to the border crossing at San Ysidro in San Diego, Calif., so they can make claims of asylum in the U.S.

The country’s National Immigration Institute has given each of the migrants a 20-day visa to speed them along to the U.S. border.

Some of the migrants may also be Haitians posing as Africans in order to improve their odds of winning asylum in the U.S. Large numbers of alleged Africans have been arriving at the U.S. border in recent months, and some Mexican officials have expressed the belief they are simply claiming to hail from countries Mexico lacks diplomatic relations with so that they are less likely to be deported.
