Kamala Harris responds to DOJ probe targeting Gavin Newsom

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly “not surprised” that California Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife are being investigated by the Justice Department.

During an Austrian World Summit panel, Harris said that she has “predicted just about everything that has happened with this administration” and called President Donald Trump’s administration “the most callous, corrupt, and incompetent presidential administration America has ever experienced.”

“It didn’t require much creative thought because he told us most of what we knew would happen, including that he would go after his political enemies using the Department of Justice,” she said.

Newsom himself reacted to the probe, positioning himself as yet another victim of the president.

“Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean tweets; he’s coming after me because I’m considering running for president, because he hates that I’ve consistently called him out over and over again for his lies and deceit,” he argued.

“The President’s abuse of the Justice Department continues, with new targets every day. The Governor won’t be silenced. Nor will my Senate colleagues. Nor will I. In the face of vindictive and baseless investigations, we are defiant and unbowed,” declared Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

And despite this being politically advantageous for her, as Newsom is predicted to be one of the people vying for the Democratic presidential nomination alongside Harris in 2028, she is standing by his side.

While some are rallying around the governor and his wife, others have questions about the probe’s origins, believing it potentially stemmed from former President Joe Biden’s administration. In May, Newsom’s former chief of staff pled guilty to tax charges and federal fraud as a result of one such investigation.
