Jeffries struggles to answer questions comparing Biden and Trump gas prices

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries was not prepared to be confronted about high gas prices under former presidents.

He was speaking to “Good Day New York” about the Memorandum of Understanding with Iran, pointing out the increase in gas prices since Operation Epic Fury.

Watch:

“My concern has been, from the beginning, that this was a war is a war that we never should have entered into. It was a reckless war of choice that has obviously cost the American people significantly, particularly as it relates to skyrocketing gas prices in an environment where the cost of living was already too high,” he said. “Now, the president has indicated that even with this tentative agreement, there are still unresolved issues related to Iran’s nuclear aspirations. That’s ironic to us, because the president said last year that Iran’s nuclear program had been completely and totally obliterated. So there’s a lot of ambiguity that needs to be sorted out over the next few days.”

The hosts surprisingly pressed Jeffries on high gas prices during previous administrations, specifically Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

“Gas prices were up under Obama too. And Biden, right?” asked co-host Rosanna Scotto. “Didn’t we have gas prices over $5?”

“Well, there were gas prices in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic situation…” Jeffries said lamely.

“And I remember eggs were like $12 a dozen,” Scotto added.

The conversation quickly moved on to basketball as they talked about the Knicks winning the NBA championship.
