NYT reports Trump has discussed giving Bondi the ax

Attorney General Pam Bondi may be facing the ax as a new report claims President Donald Trump has discussed removing her from the position.

The New York Times cited four people familiar with discussions who claimed the president is considering removing Bondi as attorney general, with ABC News reporting that sources revealed Trump has had “recent discussions with senior administration officials.”

“It’s not immediately clear whether Trump will move forward with forcing Bondi out of her role, the sources said, though the discussions have advanced as far as considering whether she could be replaced with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin or Bondi’s Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche,” ABC News reported.

The White House responded to the reports with a statement from the president released on Wednesday that said, “Attorney General Pam Bondi is a wonderful person, and she is doing a good job.”

“In recent months, Trump has repeatedly vented frustration to aides regarding both the pace and the effectiveness of the Justice Department’s ability to target his foes — concerns he had also conveyed directly to Bondi — according to sources familiar with the matter,” according to ABC News.

Bondi was subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee over the Justice Department’s investigation of the files related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. She is set to testify on April 14, and amid speculation about Trump potentially replacing her as AG, people connected to Bondi pointed the New York Times to her being at the Supreme Court on Wednesday alongside Trump to show she still has his support.

“As Attorney General, you are directly responsible for overseeing the department’s collection, review, and determinations regarding the release of files pursuant to the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and the committee therefore believes that you possess valuable insight into these efforts,” Chairman James Comer wrote in the letter to Bondi.

Bondi’s last appearance before the House Judiciary Committee in February earned her a wave of criticism and was “also the subject of some criticism at the White House, sources say,” according to ABC News.

Trump has been vocal about frustrations with the slow pace of the DOJ’s investigations, with a Truth Social post last year that seemed addressed to Bondi relating to former FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“Pam: I have reviewed over 30 statements and posts saying that, [are] essentially, same old story as last time, all talk, no action. Nothing is being done,” the president wrote in a since-deleted post. “What about Comey, Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff, Leticia??? They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done.”
