Brit Hume shuts down claims moon landing was fake

Daily Caller News Foundation

Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume shut down moon landing conspiracy theories Wednesday, saying he never doubted for a single moment that American astronauts reached the moon.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched the first crewed mission to the moon in over 53 years on Wednesday, sending four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft for a 10-day lunar flyby test flight as part of the Artemis II program. With moon landing skeptics vocal about their doubts regarding the first moon landing, Hume said on “Special Report” that he never doubted America’s lunar missions were genuine, praising the astronauts as an exceptional group of individuals.

“I didn’t have any trouble believing that. Of course, I never doubted for a moment that these moon visits that we made were real,” Hume told host Bret Baier. “And I think these astronauts, they’re a special breed. There’s no doubt about it. They’re people of tremendous ability and courage, and they love their country, and they operate and live with enormous optimism. They do these things because they believe they need to be done and that they can be done.”

Conspiracy theorists have long questioned the authenticity of NASA’s moon landing photographs, pointing to the absence of stars in the background as evidence that the event was staged in a studio. Others have claimed that filmmaker Stanley Kubrick directed the entire mission and secretly filmed it at Area 51 in Nevada.

NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which has been circling the Moon since 2009, photographed the Apollo landing sites in enough detail to show the descent stages of the lunar modules, astronaut tracks in the soil, and even the lunar rover. Apollo astronauts also left retroreflectors on the lunar surface that scientists around the world continue to use today, bouncing laser beams off the devices to take precise measurements of the distance between Earth and the Moon.
