The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin repeatedly asked former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre whether she truly believed former President Joe Biden stood a chance of winning the 2024 election.
Many Democrats urged Biden to end his reelection bid following his disastrous debate performance against President Donald Trump on June 27, which raised doubts about his mental fitness to serve another term and ultimately led him to drop out of the race. In response to Griffin, the former press secretary said while she was “shocked” by Biden’s debate performance, she could not speculate on whether her former boss could have won the election.
“Do you believe that Joe Biden would’ve won if he had stayed in and a followup to that, do you think [former Vice President] Kamala Harris would have had a better shot had she had more time?” Griffin asked.
“Look, I was asked a question, I answered it honestly and how I felt at the moment. I was the one going to the podium almost every day after that happened, and it was shocking what I saw. But I also, I can’t speculate. I don’t know what would’ve happened, and anybody who says they do, they don’t really know. And so I don’t want to rehash the past; I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Jean-Pierre said. “Right now, again, fire alarm fire, we need to move with strategy, with focus, and we need — the Democratic Party needs to actually answer those questions that I put forth: Who are we, and who are we fighting for?”

Griffin then asked Jean-Pierre if she had any knowledge about public polls indicating that Biden could not have won the election, given that she served as an assistant to the president.
“As press secretary, you were also an assistant to the president, so that meant that you were able to interact with the campaign off time,” Griffin said, which Jean-Pierre denied. “So you had no insight into the polling that showed [Biden] would’ve lost every swing state? It does matter, though; you can flail your arms about Trump, but it matters.”
The segment then went to break without Jean-Pierre answering the question.
Biden’s polling numbers reached abysmal lows ahead of the election that indicated that he could not defeat Trump. Nearly 40 congressional Democrats called on the then-president to pass the torch over their concerns of him losing due to his alleged mental decline, while former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama reportedly worked behind the scenes to get Biden to step down from the race.
Though Biden stepped down and endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris, she went on to lose the popular vote and all seven swing states to Trump.
Jean-Pierre previously said any footage raising concerns about Biden’s mental fitness as “cheap fakes” and later asserted the then-president’s “bad night” on the debate stage had no connection to his health. After Biden caved to Democrats’ requests, Jean-Pierre said his decision was “the right thing” for the American people.
