An analysis of the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump detailed not only the number of shots fired but the number of weapons discharged as well.

The ongoing investigation into the security failures that afforded a 20-year-old would-be assassin the opportunity to fire on Trump and take the life of rally-goer Corey Comperatore has raised nearly as many questions as answers provided.
Such was the case after CBS News employed experts to analyze audio and video from July 13 that confirmed how many rounds had been fired within a matter of seconds while leaving the door open for doubt about who fired two additional shots.
“Video and audio analysis from the shooting indicates the gunman fired eight shots,” detailed the report from CBS News. “Audio experts Rob Maher of Montana State University and Steven Beck of Beck Audio Forensics told CBS News they identified 10 gunshots from the recordings of the event. The first eight rounds had similar acoustic characteristics and originated from the same location. Beck said these eight discharges, fired in approximately 5.2 seconds, were consistent with the AR-15-style rifle the shooter used.”
“The final two gunshots,” continued the report, “were likely from law enforcement and came from two different firearms in two different locations, the audio analysis indicates. The first of these two gunshots was fired approximately 5.5 seconds after the gunman opened fire, Beck said. The gunman stopped firing immediately, indicating this bullet hit him. A final shot was fired 10 seconds later.”
As far as the number of shots attributed to the gunman, the analysis was corroborated by testimony from Pennsylvania State Police Col. Christopher L. Paris who responded when asked by the House Homeland Security Committee Tuesday, “I believe that the number is eight. Eight casings have been recovered.”
Meanwhile, as new video was released that confirmed security was aware of the threat prior to Trump taking the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley (R), who’d obtained the footage, raised additional concerns about how the U.S. Secret Service had fortified the area.
“This assassination attempt is a matter of substantial public interest, and the public’s business ought to be public,” the senator said in a statement. “I’m releasing these records as part of my efforts to get answers and hold agencies accountable.”
In his letter to the USSS and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Grassley included a map that designated which law enforcement agencies were responsible for which areas around the rally that showed the AGR building where the would-be assassin had been was not included. He also sought clarity on whether or not drones had been utilized by any of the agencies and, if so, in what capacity, while he wondered about a water tower in the area.
“Was the water tower cleared in advance of the rally? Did the water tower have any role in the events at the Trump rally?” asked the congressman.
