Timeline for printing ballots may push Dems to hasten decision on replacing Joe Biden

Talk of replacing President Joe Biden due to legitimate concerns about his mental acuity is all the rage in Democratic circles, but time is not on their side.

The basic logistics of an election begin with pre-printed ballots featuring all the names of candidates running, and on that note, the party is facing a somewhat hard deadline.

More from Fox News:

With only one month left until the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August, Democrats will have to decide whether Biden is their best bet at beating former President Donald Trump in November, or if concerns over his age and veracity outweigh his strength as a candidate.

However, even more concrete than naming Biden as the nominee is the printing of millions of ballots with his name on them.

Adding to the timeline is the fact that before ballots go to print, each of the 50 states has its own specific process and timeline for certifying a party’s presidential and vice presidential candidate’s name.

As Fox News noted, some states “require a party’s candidates to be certified to the director of election no later than the beginning of September, while others allow the candidate to be submitted at a later date.”

There is also the matter of mail-in ballots and early voting, which vary from state to state and require up to 45 days’ lead time for some.

The point is that when printing millions of ballots, there is an eventual cutoff point, which means a decision to replace Biden cannot drag out.

Meanwhile, the president is adamant that he is in it to win it, and Democrats face the dilemma of Vice President Kamala Harris, who may be the one person in America who is polling worse than Joe Biden. Skipping over her as the nominee brings with it very real racial implications.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from social media users who are already skeptical of the entire electoral process in America:
