The New Republic was raked over the coals for its outrageous cover depicting a former U.S. president as a fascist dictator responsible for the deaths of millions.
The leftist rag was called out on social media as a “clown publication” and blasted for “fearmongering” after sporting an image of Trump as Hitler on its latest cover.
“We chose the cover image, based on a well-known 1932 Hitler campaign poster, for a precise reason: that anyone transported back to 1932 Germany could very, very easily have explained away Herr Hitler’s excesses and been persuaded that his critics were going overboard,” the publication explained.
“After all, he spent 1932 campaigning, negotiating, doing interviews—being a mostly normal politician. But he and his people vowed all along that they would use the tools of democracy to destroy it, and it was only after he was given power that Germany saw his movement’s full face,” it continued.

“Today, we at The New Republic think we can spend this election year in one of two ways. We can spend it debating whether Trump meets the nine or 17 points that define fascism. Or we can spend it saying, ‘He’s damn close enough, and we’d better fight,'” the leftwing outlet continued. “We unreservedly choose the latter course.”
Claiming to have assembled “leading intellectual historians of fascism,” the outlet promised to show readers how a Trump victory in November would lead to fascism on a Hitler level.
The series includes a bucket full of articles on fascism and, of course, how Trump and those who support his ideas will take the nation on the road to no return.
“Why waste time debating the extent of Trump’s fascism when we ought to be fighting it instead?” Michael Tomasky asks in one piece.
“To speculate on what the future of American culture might look like in a second Trump presidency, we must consider the past: the formative New York and educational years of Donald Trump himself,” Maureen Corrigan writes in her piece titled, “A Right-Wing Counter-Hegemony.”
In an article about the “media in a fascist America,” former CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter painted an entirely imaginary scenario of a security breach at the White House on the day of Trump’s inauguration after he is re-elected.
Other articles in the series cover an imaginary fascist America and the effect it will have on education, the military, the border, and everyday life.
Social media users trashed the leftist publication and its unhinged comparison of Trump to Hitler.
