Trump plays with DeSantis name, again

Former President Donald Trump launched a litany of Truth Social bombs against political rival Ron DeSantis on Wednesday, mocking the Florida governor’s supposed flip-flopping on the pronunciation of his name.

“Have you heard that ‘Rob’ DeSanctimonious wants to change his name, again,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “He is demanding that people call him DeeeSantis, rather than DaSantis.”

“Actually, I like ‘Da’ better, a nicer flow, so I am happy he is changing it,” he stated. “He gets very upset when people, including reporters, don’t pronounce it correctly. Therefore, he shouldn’t mind, DeSanctimonious?”

The latest jab quickly made its way to Twitter, where “DeeeSantis” quickly picked up steam.

Like the endless “ToMAYto – ToMAHto” wars of days gone by, it does appear that the governor has gone back and forth on this fundamental issue, leading some to question his authenticity as a leader.

Others found the name game to be “petty.”

But Trump was on a roll, and he didn’t limit his jabs to his most formidable foe.

After one post that read simply, “ELECTION INTERFERENCE!” the GOP frontrunner took a swipe at Chris Christie’s weight, reposting to Truth Social a tweet from Roger Stone.

But he soon refocused his energies on DeSantis, quoting a statement from Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), who called out the governor’s “ingratitude.”

“How soon they forget!” Kelly wrote. “There was a time when Ron DeSantis begged for President Trump’s support.”

“Our President gave Mr. DeSantis the support that put him in a position to win the Florida Governor’s race which never would have happened if President Trump had not endorsed him,” Kelly continued. “There’s nothing more disappointing in life than ingratitude!”

“At a time when our beloved country is [in] need of strong proven leadership,” the lawmaker said, “there’s only one candidate who’s actually lead America to be that ‘shining city upon a hill’ and that is the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump!”

The Congressman signed the statement, “With unwavering support.”

Trump followed that post with a link to an article titled, “Republican Voters Don’t Want a Trump Knockoff.”

“It comes down to this: DeSantis is just not presidential material,” Matthew Boose wrote for American Greatness.

Another linked article stated, “Trump followers will remind you that DeSantis would not have his current job without the President’s endorsement.”

And yet another post linked to an opinion piece written by Shannon Lundgren for the Des Moines Register in which the Republican Iowa State Representative claimed, “Trump is the only Republican candidate who on Day One possesses the experience and fortitude to get our nation back on the right track.”

Meanwhile, on Twitter, Trump’s supporters call the latest salvo a win for the former president.

“Deeesantis jabs,” wrote one Twitter user, “Trump punches.”
