The State Department is the deep state fulcrum

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

Anyone serious about confronting the federal bureaucracy—AKA the deep state—must expose and restructure the US State Department (DOS). Around the world, it has for many years been anti-American: betraying us, attacking our allies, and emboldening the enemies of liberty. Without DOS as an enabler abroad, the Biden regime would be unable to support China and globalist organizations.

The tip of the iceberg of DOS corruption is coming to light as part of a subpoena from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced on March 28. DOS has no excuse for noncompliance; Chairman Michael McCaul has granted sufficient concessions to the order for documents related to internal DOS dissent regarding Afghanistan.

DOS will only comply with the subpoena if it and Joe Biden’s managers believe they can successfully spin the information and counter attack. Otherwise, they will ignore the subpoena, knowing the Justice Department (DOJ) will not prosecute DOS for contempt of Congress, as it did with Steve Bannon, Peter Navarro, and other enemies. Unless Congress punishes DOJ and DOS through appropriations, the two departments will continue their betrayal and obfuscation.

The Biden regime has demonstrated its contempt for law, the Constitution, and anyone who disagrees with it, including members of the Democrat Party. This undergirds the need for a nationalist Republican to win the White House in 2024.

Similarly, DOS has for many years implemented its own policy: deceiving Congress and undermining any administration with which it disagrees. As Democrat Party president adviser Clark Clifford wrote in his 1991 memoir: “The State Department [did] everything in their power to prevent, thwart, or delay the president’s Palestine policy in 1947 and 1948.” DOS found “various ways to avoid carrying out White House instructions.”

This betrayal has continued unabated.

Partner in Crime: The Justice Department

Joining DOS among the worst of the federal bureaucracy is DOJ. Examples abound of two-tiered, politicized justice. However, the most outrageous contrast is between the DOJ treatment of former President Donald Trump versus the current occupier of the Oval Office.

The Justice Department pursued Trump for being a Russian agent despite no proof whatsoever. It did not pursue Biden despite having proof—the Hunter Biden laptop since 2019—that he received money from China, Russia, and Ukraine. Notably, both cases occurred while Trump was president. DOJ bureaucrats persecuted their sitting president boss while protecting one of their own and helping to make him president.

The House Judiciary Committee is investigating DOJ and has begun to release important information. The House Foreign Affairs Committee must do the same with DOS, well beyond the Afghanistan case. DOS could easily be the least scrutinized federal department because it operates abroad.

Hidden in Plain Sight in Guatemala

As diplomats, DOS officials are experts at spinning and leaving themselves plausible explanations for their misdeeds and crimes. They work in the shadows, away from scrutiny.

Guatemala between 2021 and 2023 is an exception. DOS officials acted so blatantly that Congress can hold them to account.

DOS took over Guatemala’s judicial system in 2016 after Biden leveraged US money and imposed criminals on it. DOS personnel and its agents in the judicial system, arrogantly believing they were above the law, committed crimes that damaged Guatemala and the United States.

Guatemala’s authorities regained control in 2021 and started to apply the law to DOS agents and allies. As they fled to the United States, under DOS protection, DOS claimed Guatemala’s authorities persecuted them for having opposed corruption. DOS does this to hide its and its agents’ crimes. The public record exposes DOS claims as false, if anyone looks.

Several senators and representatives noticed in 2022 and made inquiries to DOS. They received evasive responses, if any at all. No DOS official will lie to Congress for the organization because it is a felony. If DOS tells the truth, it exposes itself and risks an overhaul of the department once the public realizes how corrupt it has become.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken was smooth and outwardly respectful in his appearance before McCaul’s committee on March 23. Nobody asked Blinken why he defended the fired Guatemala prosecutor Juan Francisco Sandoval and stated, “His dismissal undermines the rule of law.” Sandoval was fired in part for obstructing a 2019 US Department of Homeland Security criminal referral regarding the misuse of a USAID grant.

There is voluminous public evidence in Guatemala showing DOS criminality. I interviewed two victims of weaponization, one a US citizen, who were illegally kept in preventive detention for four years without evidence. Violations of their constitutional rights, including preventive detention, served the DOS political agenda.

DOS helps our enemies around the world. One is Lula, Brazil’s president and a former Fidel Castro partner. On the other hand, DOS attacks allies such as Guatemala. Congress is already investigating domestic weaponization of the government, and this should go beyond US borders. Investigations of DOS deserve the same prioritization as DOJ.

DOS actions in Guatemala have created a weak point in the wall the deep state has erected to keep Congress and the executive branch at arm’s length. We must penetrate this weak point and hold accountable unelected bureaucrats, if we are to continue to be a free, democratic republic.
