MSNBC’s Alex Wagner asks KJP if White House considers ‘Fox News a news organization’

Fox News’ competitors — if you can call them that, given the ratings — are having a field day between the revelations coming out from the $1.6 billion Dominion defamation lawsuit filed against the network, and the collective outrage from the D.C. political class over Tucker Carlson offering Americans a bit of a peek behind the Jan. 6 curtain that appears to dispel any notions of an “insurrection.”

There’s a steady chorus of voices insisting that the lone major network that considers the conservative perspective when reporting the news should be pulled from the air, distorting Fox Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch’s words to claim that Fox News knowingly lies to its viewers — the irony of CNN and MSNBC talking heads making such claims being off the chart when considering their two-year “Russian collusion” campaign.

It was on MSNBC that host Alex Wagner went for the jugular in hopes of canceling the network she cannot compete with in ratings, asking White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre whether the White House sees Fox News as a “news organization.”

“The White House has been fairly outspoken about what’s happening in certain Republican circles – specifically, what’s going on over at Fox News, where Tucker Carlson is trying to whitewash the events of Jan. 6,” Wagner opined, regurgitating White House talking points before highlighting a tweet from President Biden about 140 police officers being injured on Jan. 6.

“Does the White House consider Fox News a news organization?” she asked Jean-Pierre.

“So, I’ll say this. When you look at the depositions that have been out there recently, it even states from Fox News leadership that they do not see Tucker Carlson’s show as news or even truthful. That is coming from the Fox leadership, that’s not coming from me, that is coming from them,” KJP replied.

Of course, “Tucker Carlson Tonight” is considered opinion journalism and not a hard news program.

After noting that U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger denounced Carlson’s effort to air never-before-seen footage of Jan. 6, Jean-Pierre used the very term Wagner had just uttered, “whitewash,” to belittle Tucker Carlson.

“It was an attack on democracy,” the diversity hire said. “It was an attack on our Constitution and you cannot whitewash that. Tucker Carlson cannot whitewash that. Anyone who doesn’t see with their own eyes what occurred cannot whitewash that. And so, the president’s going to stand with the police officers, he’s going to stand for truth. And clearly, that is not what Tucker Carlson believes in.”

Not getting the answer she was seeking, Wagner opted to put words in the mouth of her guest, “So, I’m gonna say that sort of sounds like the White House doesn’t think Fox is a news organization.”
