Gutfeld, Maher prove there’s still common ground as they discuss the world’s issues

Fox News late-night host Greg Gutfeld and Bill Maher got together for the HBO host’s “Club Random Podcast” on Sunday and hilariously dug down into a variety of subjects including taboo issues, cancel culture, and commenting on those who incessantly carp on social media.

One part of the podcast dealt with potentially offensive subjects such as masturbation, porn, and incest. The complete video below covers that part of the back-and-forth for those who wish to watch.

Other highlights in the conversation included cancel culture as well. The two comedians discussed the impact of it on movies with Maher mentioning “Rain Man” and Gutfeld positing that “Animal House” still resonates but you couldn’t make that movie today, especially in regard to the “nightclub scenes.”

At issue is just how detrimental cancel culture and censorship are to society as a whole and to comedy. Maher noted that ten years ago something would have been funny and no one would have been offended, but today it’s overwhelmingly “offensive.” He said “every movie” is like that now.

“When you hear it now, in 2023, you hunch up, not because of it in itself, but because you know the reaction it will cause,” Maher asserted. “You know you’re going to have to listen to people b*tching about this, and posturing and pretending they’re so offended and it’s so terrible and that’s what’s going to be so gross.”

Both Maher and Gutfeld bashed the “mob” during the podcast for constant “b*tching” on social media about things they are offended over.

“They get on Twitter and then they kind of create this kind of like mob reaction, and then it’s people are so bored, and they’re so distracted, and also it’s a personal power thing. It’s like if I don’t have any power in my world, at least on here I can exert some kind of power, get somebody to apologize, and it feels good,” Gutfeld pointed out.

“The phone made people a**holes, full stop,” Maher contended. “It allows you to just be so f***ing cowardly, anonymous, shady, fake, all these sh*tty qualities it brought out in people.”

Gutfeld also discussed an encounter he had at an airport bar where he assumed a fellow patron hated Fox News. The man then went on to mistake Gutfeld for TMZ founder Harvey Levin, which Gutfeld thought was hilarious.

The discussion also covered technology, dating apps, Chat GPT, and marriage.

The conversation between the two men recounted the time they ran into each other years before. Maher congratulated Gutfeld on the success of his Fox News Channel show, “Gutfeld!,” and the two made it clear they respected each other’s accomplishments.

They evidently also shared a joint and drank during the podcast. Despite opposing political views, for the most part, the two men seemed to have forged a friendship and are able to intelligently discuss politics and culture without ripping into each other.

“We talked, we drank. We drank. I got really high and don’t remember anything…”, Gutfeld noted on Twitter.

The issue of having relationships with people you have fundamental disagreements with was also probed.

“I don’t like this atmosphere where you can’t be friends with anyone you can’t agree with. Not everyone is perfect,” Maher jokingly stated.

It would appear that Maher and Gutfeld have proven that you can be friends and not agree on everything.

The comments section of the podcast seemed fairly positive, with one fan writing, “This is why Club Random is so good. You can sit back and shoot the sh*t with people from both sides of the political parties. Just goes to show that we can be friends and still disagree on things.”

Another commented, “Good on both these men for having a good conversation despite their many differences on political issues. Respect.”

And yet another liked it as well, “I am impressed with humanity that you two could have so much fun together and enjoy each other.”
