DeSantis plays coy with reporters: ‘Wouldn’t you like to know?’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is in the catbird’s seat when it comes to Republican politics today, quick to challenge the left’s efforts to push a woke agenda and take on the adversarial media while staying laser-focused on being the best governor for the people of Florida.

Seen by many as the GOP’s best hope to not only take on Donald Trump but to win back the White House in 2024, DeSantis has been tightlipped about any presidential aspirations

A reporter ventured into those waters at a news conference on Tuesday, using the official announcement from former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley of her own White House bid to set up his question: “Nikki Haley announced her presidential run today, do you plan on following suit?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” DeSantis replied with a hearty chuckle, before quickly moving on to another reporter.

Seen as a clear threat by both Trump supporters and the corporate media, who played a key role in elevating Joe Biden to the White House, DeSantis gets it from both sides while he rides above the fray, drawing headlines while delivering on declarations such as this, “Florida is where woke goes to die!”

Despite a recent Washington Post article that cited two Republicans “with knowledge of the conversations” to report that advisers to DeSantis are actively gearing up for a possible face-off with Trump, DeSantis has left no breadcrumbs along the presidential trail.

Trump and his surrogates have been jabbing DeSantis in the hope that he will engage. The former president has dubbed the GOP governor as “Ron DeSanctimonious,” and just last week, Trump shared on Truth Social a claim that DeSantis engaged in inappropriate conduct with students when he was a high school teacher — American Wire previously reported that the accusation was the product of a left-wing group.

DeSantis refused to engage when asked about the latter smear at a news conference, telling reporters that he was more interested in fighting against Biden’s failed agenda than sniping at fellow Republicans.

“I spend my time delivering results for the people of Florida and fighting against Joe Biden. That’s how I spend my time,” he said. “I don’t spend my time trying to smear other Republicans.”
