Gutfeld! Super Bowl ad triggers left as CNN new Bill Maher late night launch tanks

CNN recently announced that it would begin simulcasting the “Overtime” segment from HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday nights, pitting Maher up against the new “king of late night,” Fox News host Greg Gutfeld.

Turns out, that endeavor is not getting off to a very good start — since its launch this month on CNN, “Overtime” is being trounced by Fox News’ “Gutfeld!” which is averaging 438% more viewers and 296% more in the key A25-54 demographic, according to Nielsen. Additionally, CNN’s segment of “Overtime” has failed to draw even half the audience he normally gets on HBO.

CNN averaged 401,000 viewers and 92,000 in the A25-54 demographic during the first quarter hour of its inaugural airing of “Overtime,” while “Gutfeld!” averaged over 2 million viewers and 370,000 in the A25-54 demographic, respectively. Adding to CNN’s troubles, Maher’s audience was even smaller the following week.

All of which adds perspective to Sunday’s Super Bowl ad from Fox News selling Greg Gutfeld as the “new king of late night.”

Gutfeld’s success is sending the left into a frenzy, as seen when Lizz Winstead, co-creator of “The Daily Show,” the popular Comedy Central program, attacked Gutfeld’s “f**king sh*tty” viewers during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Dean Obedeillah Show.”

“He ain’t funny to me, but we see that there’s an audience out there for sh*t like that, there’s an audience out there for sh*t like Joe Rogan, there’s an audience out there of f**king sh*tty people. 70 million people voted for Trump,” Winstead whined. “Like Fox News, those people are going to laugh at sh*t we think is f**ked up.”

It seems the prescribed marching orders on the left are to try to convince America that Gutfeld, a brilliant, hilariously funny comedian, isn’t funny at all.

That was the task Media Matters’ Kat Abu took on in a video meltdown over the Super Bowl ad — don’t be alarmed if you’ve never heard of Abu before, you have plenty of company.

You see, that fact that Gutfeld has you in stitches is because you haven’t been informed by a young white liberal female about what is and is not funny.

While Abu succeeded in getting a little attention here, it’s not exactly the attention one might covet… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
