It’s hard not to get the feeling that when it comes to Super Bowl commercials these days, there’s a little too much effort put into trying to be spectacular and this attempt to be great gets in the way of being good. On the other hand, a few ads still manage to grab America’s attention.
One such ad seen on Sunday was from Dunkin’ Donuts and featured Academy Award-winning actor Ben Affleck working the drive-thru for the popular chain. Decked out in the typical drive-thru headset and rocking a Dunkin’ Donuts t-shirt and hat, his appearance created quite a stir as he interacted with customers — at least, it did for those who recognized who he was.
But the scene that took the ad to the next level occurred when his wife Jennifer Lopez pulls up to the pickup window.
“What are you doing? Is that what you do when you say you’re going to work all day?” she asks.
“You’re embarrassing me in from of my friends,” Affleck replied, as he motioned toward his coworkers. Sounding much like a dejected kid being called home by his mom, he added, “I’ve got to go guys.”

A long-time fan, Affleck signed a deal with Dunkin’ Donuts worth “several million dollars,” according to Entertainment Tonight, which noted that the partnership included a donation to the actor’s non-profit, the Eastern Congo Initiative.
“Ben planned out the whole thing and wanted something like a hidden camera commercial,” ET reported last month, citing a source. A second source added, “Jen and Ben were so loving on set. You can really tell how special their connection is. Jen just adores Ben, and they both lift each other up and make each other feel so happy. It’s really sweet to watch.”
The Super Bowl game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles came down to a final field goal by the Chiefs, who prevailed 37-34 for the team’s second Lombardi Trophy.
And while the contest was a winner, so too was the Dunkin’ Donuts ad, as seen on Twitter:
