Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) over her opposition to oil and gas drilling on federal land Thursday, telling her to “educate yourself” on how the US obtained low emissions using natural gas, while she accused him of being on a “mission to increase profits for corporations.”

Republicans introduced a bill, H.R.21, the Strategic Production Response Act, that mandates the federal government approve more drilling on government property before drawing from the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve in non-emergency situations according to Roll Call. The bill was introduced by House Energy and Commerce Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.
Following that move, Ocasio-Cortez proposed an amendment that would limit oil and gas leases.
“We know that leasing more land to fossil fuel companies does not guarantee that gas prices will drop,” Ocasio-Cortez railed from the House floor. “As we’ve seen this past year, even when these companies have record profits they do not pass along those savings to their consumers. What leasing more land does do, however, is guarantee that we will accelerate the devastating impact of climate change.”
Duncan, who is the House Commerce’s Subcommittee Chair on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security, responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s dishonest attack.
7:25:29 p.m. – #HR21 – An amendment, offered by Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, numbered 73 printed in the #CongressionalRecord to limit the plan where oil and gas leasing would be inconsistent with the goals of the Paris Climate Accords. https://t.co/odbWABa1ZN

“Go and learn for yourself about this,” he told the New York socialist. “Educate yourself on how America attained its low emissions. You care about the air quality, you care about climate change. Natural gas is what got America there. Educate yourself on that.”
Ocasio-Cortez bit back after getting offended over the common sense advice coming from the South Carolina Republican.
“I understand in this body it’s not the first time that it seems as though the opposing side can’t seem to be able to debate the issue,” she falsely contended. “And so, they must come after my character.”
She went on to outrageously assert that although she “cannot control the fact that the other side seems to have made the assumption that I am uneducated,” unlike Republicans, she is not in Congress “with the mission to increase profits for corporations.”
“My mission here is for the well-being and dignity of our family and our planet’s future, for our children’s ability to live on this planet,” she grandstanded. “That is what this amendment is about.”
She added, “We should all take it upon ourselves on this body to educate ourselves on the science of the challenge of climate change that is before us.”
The leftist climate change activist continued her rant from the floor of the House.
AOC: Let's break down this myth that oil companies need even more permits.. The oil industry already possesses 9000 unused permits on federal land. Nearly 5000 permitted in 2021 alone. The oil industry already has 10 years of unused leases… pic.twitter.com/Qq6RGQVcuG

Ocasio-Cortez further attacked Duncan’s comments on Twitter, writing that “fewer things are more predictable than Republicans having a meltdown when I settle them in a debate.”
“If you’re curious as to why this man is so angry with me, it could be because I introduced an amendment to a GOP law that would ban oil and gas companies doing share repurchases from leasing federal land,” she tweeted. “Seems like I hit a nerve!”
According to Newsweek, Duncan telling Ocasio-Cortez to “educate yourself” has gone viral on social media, where it has collected over 3.2 million views.
