Gunman killed by police after opening fire inside Indiana Walmart, striking at least 1 victim

A 25-year-old former Walmart employee opened fire at the Evansville, Indiana, store he once worked at, striking a female employee before being killed in a shootout with police.

The deceased gunman was identified as Ronald Roy Mosley II by the Evansville Police Department, which confirmed that Mosley previously worked at the store.

Officer Taylor Merriss said that a yet-to-be-identified female employee was struck in the shooting and that she “was able to talk when she was taken away from the scene,” according to the Evansville Courier & Press.

EPD tweeted late Thursday, “Threat has been neutralized and is in custody. Officers clearing the area to tend to possible victims.”

Merriss said officers entered the store after customers and employees were sent scrambling, and described the body cam footage of the officers searching for the gunman as “eerie.”

“There were multiple officers looking for the offender. And he could come around the corner at any time,” he said.

“When officers went in, they were trying to locate the suspect and he was all over the store. He would shoot at officers and move. So it wasn’t contained to just one area inside,” Evansville Police Department’s Anna Gray said, adding that a number of officers returned fire eventually killing Mosley.

Gray stressed that the officers followed their training.

“We have been trained that if there’s an active threat, we go in – we don’t pause, we don’t take time to try to figure out what’s going on. We go in and we go where the shots are being fired,” she said.

There was also a report that Mosley was arrested last May for allegedly assaulting multiple Walmart co-workers.
