MSNBC host Joy Reid desperately took her racism to new lows on Friday, accusing Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) of throwing a “white power sign” while voting against Rep. Byron Donalds(R-Fla.), who happens to be black, for the House speakership.

Santos, who has been outed for lying on a number of things, voted for House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy to take the speaker gavel. Reid outrageously asserted that Santos was a racist for voting for McCarthy instead of Donalds simply because his fingers happened to be in a certain position. That’s a stretch even for her.
The MSNBC host was speaking with The Bulwark’s Tim Miller when she made the accusation. She tore into Republicans, baselessly accusing them of being insurrectionists, and then brought up Santos, who is reportedly of Brazilian ancestry, and laughably alleged that he is a white supremacist.
“This inside coup, which is basically insurrectionist versus insurrectionist, is about committee seats,” Reid sneered. “It’s about something as small and mundane as committee seats.”
She then showed a picture of Santos voting with what she called a “white power sign.”

“And one of the people who will have the power to use that vote of no confidence by himself is this guy. Can we put up George Santos? George Santos, who we don’t know anything about his background because he lied about it all, and who appeared today to throw the white power sign when he voted on the second round of the Kevin McCarthy vote,” she stated.
“This was not in today’s vote, either today or it might have been yesterday. He did that. And one of the people that was on the ballot at that time, of course, was Byron Donalds, who is black,” Reid asserted in an accusation that evidently, not even her guests could stomach.
She went on to remark that MSNBC had tried to reach out to Santos for comment but he has not been sworn in yet. Then she turned to Miller for comment on her daft charge.
“Yeah. I don’t – he might have been holding his fingers together,” Miller commented, sidestepping the issue. “There’s plenty of bad things about George Santos without me reading into his body language.”

On Thursday evening, Santos stood to cast a vote for McCarthy in the 10th round of votes for speaker of the House. As he waited to be called, he stood in the aisle of the House chamber.
“Santos,” the clerk called out.
With his right hand raised and his left hand across his midsection, he is accused of making a sideways “OK” gesture by causing his index finger and thumb to meet. The gesture looked absolutely accidental and not at all what it is being painted as by the left.
“McCarthy,” Santos said, before turning around, walking away, and moving both hands back down to his sides.

Santos officially took office when the new Congress was convened following Republicans finally electing McCarthy as House speaker late Friday evening. He consistently voted for McCarthy during the protracted voting process that began on Tuesday, according to NBC News.
When asked by NBC News on Friday if he received assurances from McCarthy on committee assignments in exchange for his vote, Santos replied, “I have no need to have those conversations.”
