Woke producer reveals he cut nearly 10 mins of gun content from film, regrets ‘fetishizing’ firearms

Film director James Cameron is trending ever more left, now claiming that he regrets “fetishizing” firearms in his movies such as the “Terminator” franchise, going so far as to cut ten minutes out of “Avatar 2” to rid the flick of guns.

Considering that Cameron is thinking of rebooting the “Terminator” franchise, doing so without guns seems like a non-starter. It’s one thing to disarm altruistic blue aliens and have actors recreate the “Titanic,” but to gut the plot of artificial intelligence-powered killer robots is just nonsensical and would be highly unlikely to draw an audience.

Cameron thinks it’ll take more than terrible reviews and several consecutive flops of the “Terminator” series of movies to keep the T-800 and his fellow killer bots down. The franchise has experienced a number of box office flops in recent years including “Terminator Genisys” and “Terminator: Dark Fate.”

“Dark Fate” was a massive box office bomb with just $261 million worldwide. As Cameron has drifted to the left in the franchise, it has done progressively worse.

The director says he would take a different approach to a potential sequel or reboot of the “Terminator” franchise.

“If I were to do another Terminator film and maybe try to launch that franchise again, which is in discussion, but nothing has been decided, I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy,” Cameron remarked recently on the “Smartless” podcast.

Cameron gave an interview to Esquire Middle East to promote “Avatar: The Way of Water.” During the sit-down, he stated he regretted his reliance on firearms to sell movie tickets in the past. That was when he admitted he cut 10 minutes of gunplay out of his “Avatar” sequel in an act of homage to his stance against onscreen gun violence.

“I actually cut about 10 minutes of the movie targeting gunplay action. I wanted to get rid of some of the ugliness, to find a balance between light and dark. You have to have conflict, of course. Violence and action are the same thing, depending on how you look at it. This is the dilemma of every action filmmaker, and I’m known as an action filmmaker,” he told Esquire Middle East.

“I look back on some films that I’ve made, and I don’t know if I would want to make that film now. I don’t know if I would want to fetishize the gun, like I did on a couple of ‘Terminator’ movies 30-plus years ago, in our current world. What’s happening with guns in our society turns my stomach,” Cameron asserted.

The leftist director now lives in New Zealand which has very strict gun laws and he claims he’s much happier for it.

“I’m happy to be living in New Zealand where they just banned all assault rifles two weeks after that horrific mosque shooting a couple of years ago,” he remarked.
