Public library nixes Christmas tree over complaints, one staffer’s polite objection sparks unhinged backlash

The Dedham Public Library in Massachusetts has decided that putting up a Christmas tree this year is just too offensive as it allegedly made people “uncomfortable” by “looking at it” last year.

The branch supervisor for the taxpayer-funded library, Lisa Desmond, expressed outrage on Facebook last week over the move.

“I have never posted a negative post on Facebook. That is, until now. I found out today that my beautiful library will not have it’s (sic) Christmas tree this year. Zero explanation. When I asked, I was told ‘people’ were made uncomfortable last year looking at it. I’m sorry WHAT? In my 28 years at the Dedham Public Library, I have never heard a negative comment,” she wrote.

“We have celebrated and included everyone in our community. In fact, I was asked to emcee Juneteenth this year. What an honor. Those who know me and my family know we celebrate Christmas Hanukkah. My Muslim friends and Western Indian friends invite me to their celebrations. What an amazing gift. This picture was taken at my beautiful library last Christmas. My cousin and family were visiting from NC’ and surprised me with a visit. This is a photo of their son putting an ornament on the tree,” Desmond continued.

“This boy will surely remember his visit to his cousins library. Those who know me know I lead with positive intentions. I’m not feeling very positive today. Please bring Christmas back to my beautiful library. And always lead with love in your heart. Rant over,” she concluded.

Desmond noted in the comments section of the Facebook post that the library director made the decision and WBZ-ZM pointed out that the director is Amber Moroney.

“I was actually put into a category with murderers— that was probably the lowest point I’ve ever had,” she told the media outlet concerning attacks against her online for wanting the library to put up a Christmas tree.

She went on to add another post on Tuesday that included screenshots of a profanity-laced rant on a local Facebook page against her and her issues with the Christmas tree cancellation. The poster reportedly works for a local human rights commission.

The woke poster wrote that Desmond is a “selfish, f***ing b*tch who does not care about anyone else but herself. For a tree? A motherf***ing TREE? You have put people’s lives in a lot of danger. A lot of danger. For a motherf***ing Christmas tree.”

“I hope that you — who claim to believe in Christ or whatever happy horses**t you’re trying to hide behind — are the least gracious, most hateful, most disgusting trash in the world. Is this what you think your magic sky daddy wants?” the hateful individual continued.

Desmond remarked that “police have been notified” concerning the lengthy obscene, threatening rant.

She is not backing down over decrying the banning of the Christmas tree at the library. Desmond said that the Board of Library Trustees is meeting on Tuesday and encouraged residents to make their voices heard over it, “If you can’t make it, a letter to the board might help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. However you celebrate, I wish you and your family love and peace.”

Conservative commentator Todd Starnes asked the real question at hand and it actually has to do with hating Christianity, “The library has hosted a number of ‘diversity’ events over the past year including an untold number of LGBT-themed issues. So why does the library director have a problem with a Christmas tree?”
