An Indiana police officer and his wife are joyfully celebrating this Thanksgiving the adoption of a newborn baby girl just months after she was abandoned in a Safe Haven Baby Box when she was only one day old.

The adoption of little Myah was made as Officer Bruce Faltynski and his wife Shelby finalized the adoption of their older daughter, Kaia, who is now 8 years old.

The opportunity for the adoption came when the Department of Child Services contacted them “for the potential to interview for the process of [adopting] baby Myah,” Officer Faltynski said during an interview on Saturday on “Fox & Friends Weekend.”

The baby was initially admitted to the NICU where doctors determined she had a stroke. She is fine and healthy now, according to WNDU.

The happy pair were initially foster parents to their older daughter, Kaia, and after a year of falling in love with her, they received additional foster-to-adopt training.

“Through that training, that’s what allowed us to be on a list to be adoptive parents,” Faltynski recounted.

The adoption of Myah was finalized on Nov. 18, which is ironically National Adoption Day.

Shelby Faltynski told “Fox & Friends Weekend” that she knew “nothing” about Safe Haven Baby Boxes until she and her husband received a call from the Department of Child Services about the baby.

No criminal penalties are charged in Indiana under the state’s “Safe Haven Law” which allows infants up to 30 days to be anonymously abandoned as long as they show no signs of abuse.

There are 126 designated “Safe Haven Baby Boxes” across seven states. The majority of the boxes are in Indiana, according to the website for Safe Haven Baby Boxes, Inc.

“A Baby Box is a safety device provided for under state’s Safe Haven Law and legally permits a mother in crisis to safely, securely and anonymously surrender if they are unable to care for their newborn,” the website states.

A Baby Box “is installed in an exterior wall of a designated fire station or hospital.” They are monitored electronically and are temperature controlled according to the site. A door on the interior side of the box allows medical professionals to access the baby and provide medical care when it is needed.

The first Safe Haven Baby Box was reportedly installed in Woodburn, Indiana, in April 2016. Since it was put in place, no abandoned babies have died in Indiana. The site contends it is “proof our work is succeeding in protecting infants and their mothers in crisis.”

During this Thanksgiving, the Faltynskis are full of gratitude to the mothers of their adoptive daughters.

“We’ll forever be grateful for Kaia’s mommy and Myah’s mommy,” Shelby Faltynski emotionally stated. “Both girls are so blessed to have two mommies that love them and only want the best for them.”

“And so we have nothing but just respect and admiration, and truly, truly a heart of gratitude for Myah’s mom for her courageous and brave decision. These girls are both an answer to our prayers,” she stated with the evident love of a mother who counts herself blessed with children.
