Much as the United States has lost control of the crisis at the open U.S.-Mexico border thanks to progressive policies under President Joe Biden, newly appointed leaders in Italy and the United Kingdom have been left to deal with their own overcrowded facilities while attempting to turn away rescue ships exacerbating the problem.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have been in office for roughly two weeks and both have been tasked with solving the out-of-control illegal alien problems facing their nations. For Meloni, part of the solution came in curbing entry in the first place as her government demanded vessels transporting refugees leave port and bring the aliens to the nation they sail for.
According to the Associated Press, four separate charity-run ships were turned away in some capacity on Sunday as they attempted to offload aliens picked up in the Mediterranean Sea at the port of Catania, Sicily. Sailing under the flag of Germany, the charity organization SOS Humanity had already dropped off 144 rescued travelers, over 100 of which were said to be unaccompanied minors or people with medical emergencies, and had 35 aliens remaining on board as they refused Italian orders to leave port, “until all survivors rescued from distress at sea have been disembarked”

Similarly, the Norwegian ship Geo Barents operated by Doctors Without Borders arrived later Sunday with 572 migrants aboard, prohibiting 215 from disembarking despite claims that there were medical conditions on the vessel that needed attending.

Two separate non-governmental organization (NGO) run vessels were prohibited from entering port as the new Italian government headed by Meloni has accused the groups’ relief work of encouraging smugglers to continue trafficking across the Mediterranean.
Infrastructure minister Matteo Salvini posted a video with a caption that translated to, “Finally we return to defend the borders and laws of our country. As always, we will guarantee rescue and assistance, but we prohibit foreign NGOs from parking in Italian territorial waters.”

The request from the Italian government is that the NGOs transport the rescued aliens to the nation they sail for, but Italian lawmaker Aboubakar Soumahoro, himself an Ivory Coast-born migrant advocate, declared this wasn’t sufficient and stated, “Free all the people, free them,” adding they have faced “trauma, they have faced everything that we can define as prolonged suffering.”
“Their fault is to speak another language. Their fault is to have another color,” he went on.
Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, protests formed outside the former Royal Air Force base in Kent that had been converted into the Manston immigrant center.

The location was only meant to hold 1,600 for days at a time but reports suggested there have been as many as 4,000 detained at the facility and a video posted to social media was said to depict “a detained mother, father and baby inside their detention prison. They are waving. We say: FREE THEM!”

Many of the protesters focused their ire on newly seated Home Secretary Sue-Ellen “Suella” Braverman and a sign was placed outside Manston that read “Suella Braverman Centre for Cruelty to Refugees.”

However, Braverman has taken a similar stance to the Italian government on dealing with the overwhelming number of aliens and posted Sunday, “Britain is generous and compassionate. Illegal migration needs fixing and we will do whatever it takes to stop the boats.”
Salvini shared that post with applause hours later.
