CBS News shares list of criteria to be considered an ‘election denier’, conveniently only applies to Biden’s election

CBS News has detailed what it takes to be considered an “election denier” and, if taken to its logical conclusion, prominent Democrats make the cut.

On “CBS Mornings” on Thursday, the show trotted out CBS Congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane, who has become something of a January 6th obsessive if you check his Twitter feed, as their election denial expert. Macfarlane went on to give a “detailed and formal” definition of what constitutes an election denier, giving the viewer the ability to spot one in the wild presumably.

Unsurprisingly, the criteria for the newly minted epithet all relate to the 2020 election. The first point that was made that would qualify an “election denier” was the questioning of the legitimacy of President Joe Biden’s election.

Conveniently, this list of traits doesn’t stretch back to the presidential election of 2016 which saw Hillary Clinton claim her victory was fraudulently taken from her. Three years later in 2019, Clinton still insisted that one could have run the perfect campaign and still have had the election “stolen from you,” clearly insinuating that is what happened to her.

Clinton’s claims go far beyond skepticism, they are outright denials of reality. In CBS’s purview, however, this does not count as election denial. The last bullet point on the list was that if you had supported the audit of 2020, you were an election denier. No longer can a concerned citizen be the least bit scrupulous when it comes to the handling of one of our most important institutions. If these are the new rules to abide by, then it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing any demands for a recount in the near future.

CBS News is casting a wide net so that they can categorize 308 of the 590 Republican congressional candidates as election deniers, but they are only fishing out of one end of the lake.

No mention was made of Stacey Abrams’ persistent claims of voter suppression, and that the results of her gubernatorial race in 2018 were illegitimate. Democrats ushered Abrams on stage at the DNC of 2020 as one of their Democrat governors, yet, notably, the Democrat Party has escaped the confines of MacFarlane’s fishing exposition.

MacFarlane is joined by President Biden with his constant use of the events of January 6th, and the fallout of the 2020 election as a motivator to drive Democrat voters to the polls.

“Make no mistake,” he said in a speech on Tuesday. “Democracy is on the ballot for all of us.”

Biden claimed that “American democracy is under attack,” and implored voters to counter these ‘attacks’ at the ballot box next Tuesday, setting the narrow parameters under which democracy will be maintained. It seems unlikely that if Democrats are soundly defeated at the polling stations in these midterms and begin to question the nature of their losses that CBS News and MacFarlane will update their definition of what it means to be an election denier.
