Rep. Lofgren says Ginni Thomas may not be featured at Jan. 6 hearing: ‘I don’t think she was a key figure’

Jan. 6 House select committee member Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) stated on Sunday that the panel may not feature testimony from Ginni Thomas on Thursday allegedly because she wasn’t a “key figure” in connection to events that day.

Lofgren made the comment on MSNBC concerning the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as she discussed the ongoing investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

Ginni Thomas was grilled by the inquisition in September. The committee is now prepping for a hearing on Thursday which will evidently not include Thomas although Lofgren was not definitive one way or the other. She parsed her words very carefully on the matter.

“We may,” Lofgren told MSNBC host Yasmin Vossoughian when she asked if Thomas’s testimony would be heard at the hearing.

The panel did not videotape Thomas’ original interview for some reason as they did with other witnesses. Since there is no video, her testimony will be presented via a transcript if it is presented at the hearing.

“It was just the agreement reached with her, and I think it was suitable from all sides,” Lofgren stated during the interview on MSNBC.

The Jan. 6 committee attempted to question Thomas for months, accusing her of exchanging emails with John Eastman, the attorney who drafted memos for the Trump campaign ostensibly outlining how then-Vice President Mike Pence could keep the former president in power, according to The Hill.

Rumors have swirled that Ginni Thomas also spoke with White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Arizona Republicans about alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

Lofgren remarked that the interview with Thomas was “lengthy.” The California Democrat was not present for the entire interview but claims she has read the transcript.

I don’t think she was a key figure necessarily, she had very mistaken views,” Lofgren charged. “I mean we all know that there is no evidence of massive fraud in the election.”

“But she has a belief system that she apparently still holds, although she did also express some doubts during the interview,” she added. “So it was important that we talk to her because of the email exchanges, but I don’t think she was a major player in this, personally.”

The left has been rabid over Ginni Thomas’ alleged involvement in Jan. 6-connected interactions. They have demanded that Justice Clarence Thomas recuse himself from any cases related to Jan. 6.

“As she has said from the outset, Mrs. Thomas had significant concerns about fraud and irregularities in the 2020 election,” her attorney, Mark Paoletta, remarked in a statement following her interview with the committee.

“And, as she told the committee, her minimal and mainstream activity focused on ensuring that reports of fraud and irregularities were investigated,” the statement asserted. “Beyond that, she played no role in any events after the 2020 election results. As she wrote in a text to Mark Meadows at the time, she also condemned the violence on January 6, as she abhors violence on any side of the aisle.”
