Late-night comedy tanks as leftist comics push Dems, blast Republicans before midterms

The leftist late-night comedy clique is pushing propaganda for Democrats for all they are worth ahead of the midterms, ensuring their ratings will tank even more in the cultural demise of what many used to see as a non-partisan escape from the muck of politics.

There was a time not so long ago when both Democrats and Republicans were lampooned by the after-dark comics. Not so anymore. Now, it is a neverending Trump bash fest as well as the hammering of conservatives in general. Political partisanship has been substituted for humor and is watched by those who no longer even know what comedy is.

In fact, Vice President Kamala Harris will join Monday’s episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” according to The Wrap. Biden has already joined late-night comedy as a guest over and over again when he should more appropriately be the butt of their jokes.

The demise of late-night comedy has been going on for some time, according to Fox News. An early example happened in May 2017 when “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert went crass on former President Trump, “The only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c*** holster.”

The CBS comedian was not reprimanded for the obscene reference. Instead, Colbert doubled down on his Trump hatred. He started hosting Democrats who shared his view of the former president and he’s still doing so with guests such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)

In 2019, “The Late Show” became the premier campaign platform for Democratic presidential candidates competing in the 2020 primary. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, and Cory Booker all made appearances, and Kirsten Gillibrand and Eric Swalwell announced their candidacies on Colbert’s show.

“Colbert courts as many big-name Democrats as he can because he’s an activist first and a comic second,” comedian and Fox Nation host Jimmy Failla told Fox News Digital in an interview. “His entire point of being is to help Democrats feed moral superiority to viewers because that’s what the Democratic ethos runs on.”

When Trump lost the presidential election to Biden and Colbert no longer had him to kick around, it dealt a massive blow to his show. His liberal audience shrunk by 27 percent. He has since been dethroned by Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, the new king of late-night comedy.

“It’s kind of ironic that the biggest obstacle facing late-night hosts is five foot four but yes, Greg Gutfeld has changed the game,” Failla noted. “One, he’s attacking stories from an angle nobody is, and two, he’s never taking himself seriously which is the golden rule of comedy. Guys like Colbert never make fun of themselves!”

All of the comics who were previously thought of as giants in late-night comedy have fallen including Jimmy Fallon (who is ironically pretty much apolitical), Jimmy Kimmel, Samantha Bee, Conan O’Brien, Seth Meyer, John Oliver, and James Corden, among others. Their audiences are cratering but they still seem to snag Emmys.

One outlier in the bloodbath that has become late-night comedy is Bill Maher. His “Real Time” audience has shrunk as well but his viewership is higher than John Oliver, Seth Meyers, James Corden, and Trevor Noah. Maher continuously generates headlines and social media buzz. He’s a leftist who isn’t afraid to offend both Democrats and Republicans.

For example, Maher suggested President Biden cut Vice President Kamala Harris from the Democratic ticket if he runs in 2024. In May, he challenged the LGBTQ agenda and was trashed by the left for it. He still lashes out at Republicans and Trump on a regular basis as well.

Although Mayer is a Democrat and promotes their policies, he frequently criticizes the “woke” progressives in elected office. He especially takes aim at the “Squad” and its leader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). And he is unafraid when calling out Hollywood hypocrisy.

“So many things about the left now contain some level of ridiculousness, and I not only call that out, I love calling it out,” Maher proclaimed in an interview. “First of all, it’s the thing that the liberals should be doing more than anything else is criticizing their own side for what’s losing them elections. But besides that, I’m a comedian. I go where it’s funny.”

And then there is the exit of Trevor Noah from “The Daily Show.”

“I realized after seven years that my time is up,” he told a shocked in-studio audience. “But in the most beautiful way, honestly, I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges, it’s been one of my greatest joys. I loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly s****y on the worst days, you know, we’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together, but after seven years, I feel like it’s time.”

Conservative commentator Joe Concha told Fox News Digital, “Trevor Noah had a seven-year run that was a spectacular failure. He never came close to generating the viral buzz that Jon Stewart did. His ratings were a fraction of his predecessor. And that’s because Noah served as a Democratic activist just like Colbert and Kimmel and Seth Meyers. Lectures are boring, and that’s exactly what he did on a nightly basis.”

The most tragic fall of late-night comedy has to be “Saturday Night Live.” The show truly was funny back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s with icons such as Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Joe Piscopo, Eddie Murphy, Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, and so many others.

The show lost its way once it started letting actor Alec Baldwin hammer Trump on a weekly basis. It morphed into a leftist bullhorn, ditching comedy in the process.

Piscopo, a former “SNL” cast member, told Fox News Digital that “the comedy writes itself” from the Biden administration. But the long-running show is missing “opportunities” to poke fun at the Democrats in power.

Which will eventually cause the show to go the way of other leftist comedy shows.
