Colbert presses AOC to run for president as she calls on Biden, Dems to ‘put Supreme Court in check’

Far-left U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), a politician who doesn’t seem to know how many justices currently serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, has come out in favor of court-packing as well as ending the filibuster in the U.S. Senate.

AOC made these recommendations to President Joe Biden and her fellow Democrats during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which has devolved into a nightly pro-Democrat infomercial rather than a CBS entertainment program.

A “distressed” Colbert, who accordingly is more of a liberal activist than a variety show host or a comedian these days, teed it up for the lawmaker by asking her to comment on several high court decisions such as the ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned Roe v. Wade and returned the abortion debate to the states.

In what seems to be part of coordinated Democrat messaging, the lawmaker whom Fox News host Tucker Carlson refers to as “Sandy from Westchester,” apparently as a way to call attention to the upscale suburban neighborhood where she grew up in contrast to the working-class Bronx-area district that she purportedly represents, spewed out overreach and delegitimization talking points, as well as making a reference to “pregnant people.”

“Well, I think one of the things that we’re seeing here is the Supreme Court is actively delegitimizing itself…The Supreme Court has the power. Its power is in whether its rulings are heeded and respected, and if so, how much and to what extent. And when we have…the framing of our government…the president, Congress, and the Supreme Court are supposed to be three co-equal branches, co-equal, none with supremacy over the other,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed in the video clip embedded above, while giving Colbert’s audience a civics lesson.

“And when any one of those branches overreaches its authority, it is the responsibility of the other two to check the overreach of that authority. The Supreme Court has engaged in the overreaching of its authority,” she added, in what sounds like memorized comments.

“In denying the human and civil rights of any pregnant person, or person that could become pregnant in the United States of America, they have engaged in overreach, and it is the responsibility of the president and Congress to put the Supreme Court in check because they have delegitimized themselves,” she continued, to the sound of audience applause.

Pro-life activists believe that the Supreme Court overreached in 1973 when it nationalized abortion under Roe.

The late Justice Ginsburg, even as she is celebrated as a liberal champion of women’s rights and feminism generally (although blue-checkers are now mad that she never retired in time to give President Obama another high court nomination), expressed misgivings about the scope of the Roe decision.

“Indeed, the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a critic of Roe, seeing it as too sweeping in supplanting state laws. She later blamed the case for reversing the trend toward more pro-choice states,” influential George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley explained in November 2021.

“I believe that President Biden should entertain expansion of the Supreme Court…I believe that he should forcefully come out in ending the filibuster of the United States Senate,” Ocasio-Cortez declared, as Colbert gave her an inordinate amount of airtime.

The congresswoman, who like it or not, has the ability to generate lots of publicity on and off social media, also insisted that ending the filibuster would allow Congress to codify Roe, same-sex marriage, and the right to contraception, and that’s why voters should cast a ballot to keep Democrats in power, and that her party will use that power “to the fullest extent possible to defend everybody’s civil, economic, and human rights.”

Ocasio-Cortez has previously branded the Supreme Court as an entity that has been subjected to a hostile takeover.

Congressional Democrats during the Obama administration, however, never sought to enshrine Roe in federal statutes.

During a history lesson, AOC made what appears to be a Freudian slip by referring to FDR’s New Deal as the Green New Deal.

In another cringey segment of the interview, Colbert pointed out that Ocasio-Cortez will turn 35 in October 2024, making her eligible to run for president under the U.S. Constitution (hint, hint).

“I think that we need to focus on keeping a democracy for anybody to be president in the next couple of years. So that’s my central focus, is helping the people of this country,” the grinning and non-committal Democrat told the TV host. “You’re getting me in trouble.”

Protecting democracy is another buzzword that always-projecting, authoritarian Dems have rolled out in the runup to the November midterms.

Ocasio-Cortez might be better off at least initially seeking a U.S. Senate seat in the blue state. Chuck Schumer, for example, will be pushing 80 when he comes up for reelection in 2028 after his expected win this year. Or she should could primary Kirsten Gillibrand in 2024.

She separately told Colbert that any Republican in the House who allegedly sought a pardon from President Trump before he left office should be expelled.

“I will say, bare minimum, those who specifically thought pardons for themselves should be expelled from the United States House of Representatives, beyond a shadow of a doubt. They were willing to commit crimes in order to illegally seize power, and no person of any power, of any seat, of any party, should be willing to do that in order to undermine our democracy. I do believe that many of these individuals need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in order to establish and to prove to ourselves and to the world that there is rule of law in the United States.”

According to the Democratic Socialists of America website, Ocasio-Cortez “is DSA’s foremost socialist superstar.”
