Former President Trump’s attorneys have issued a new court filing that shockingly asserts that “closer to 200,000 pages” of documents were seized by the FBI when they raided his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
Trump attorneys James Trusty, Lindsey Halligan, and Evan Corcoran stated in their latest filing to the Special Master in the Mar-a-Lago probe, Judge Raymond Dearie, that they can’t find a vendor to scan all the documents in the time allotted simply because there are just far too many of them. The 11,000 documents contained many more pages than they were expecting.
“…when Plaintiff’s counsel referred to either 11,000 pages or even 11,000 documents during the status conference (we are still awaiting the transcript), the Government chose not to interject with an accurate number. In conversations between Plaintiff’s counsel and the Government regarding a data vendor, the Government mentioned that the 11,000 documents contain closer to 200,000 pages. That estimated volume, with a need to operate under the accelerated timeframes supported by the Government, is the reason why so many of the Government’s selected vendors have declined the potential engagement,” the former president’s legal team contended.
“In short, seasoned IT professionals who routinely work on large-scale document productions with the Government cannot meet the Government’s proposed schedule, and it was never realistic for the Government to suggest such a narrow timeframe. Consequently, the Plaintiff respectfully suggests that Your Honor and the parties will be best served by having the retained vendor convey a supportable timeframe for scanning roughly 200,000 pages into a platform, and also provide a breakdown of rollout quantities and proposed deadlines. It would be better to base deadlines on actual data and not wistful claims by the Government,” the attorneys asserted.

CNN claims that Trump attorney Chris Kise has been “sidelined” from leading the Mar-a-Lago defense team after being lured away from his prestigious firm with a $3 million payday in the midst of all this. Kise’s name does not appear on the latest letter addressed to Judge Dearie.
Whether that is true or not is anyone’s guess but consider that CNN host Don Lemon was the one who reported it.

Lemon and CNN legal analyst Elie Honig insinuated that Kise may have been unwilling to lie for Trump.
“I want to ask about this. Trump has a new addition to his legal team. His name is Chris Kise. He’s getting sidelined from Mar-a- Lago documents investigation. He was the big name brought up less than a month ago to really represent Trump on the issue, even negotiated a $3 million payment upfront. He may still focus on other Trump investigations. But what is happening with him? Why is he being sidelined?” Lemon asked.
“Well, it’s hard to say. Chris Kise is one of the sorts of more accomplished lawyers on Trump’s legal team. Really the quality of his lawyering so far has been poor, and I think I’m being sort of generous at even stating it that way. The arguments have been weak, the strategy has been all over the map, and we are seeing it backfire, for example, with the special master,” Honig contended.
“These claims that Trump is making, that he declassified documents, the documents were planted, the judge now, the special master, is calling him out on it. And part of the dilemma, I think, for any lawyer whether it’s Chris Kise or anybody else is you cannot make a false statement to a court knowingly,” he disingenuously stated.

“And if you are put in that position as a lawyer, then you have to step off of the case. I don’t know that that is happening here, but the fact and if Chris Kise is in fact being sidelined or somehow minimized, that is not a good sign for Donald Trump and his legal strategy,” Honig continued.
Lemon predictably posited that there was no good defense of Trump.
“Well, any good defense lawyer can come up with a decent defense. It could be that there is a miscommunication or a lack of trust between the client, Donald Trump, and the lawyer. It could be that Chris Kise is not willing to make certain defenses that Donald Trump would want him to make, and that gets back to the ethical point that I said before, you can’t go into court and say something if you believe is false. So, when that happens, you do see parting of ways sometimes,” Honig said.
