Amy Klobuchar uses storm to get votes, because voting for Dems will stop hurricanes, or something

Political science being the chief forecaster of the Democratic Party’s decision-making, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) may have outdone even President Joe Biden with her comments ahead of Hurricane Ian making landfall in Florida with a shameless plug for the midterm election.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for nearly two million Floridians ahead of the storm expected to bring severe and potentially life-threatening flooding and storm surges, and as the Minnesota lawmaker saw it, that is all the more reason to vote Democrat. While residents made plans to head to higher ground or seek refuge in one of 176 shelters opened across the state, Klobuchar joined MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to insinuate that Republicans were to blame for the weather.

“We just did something about climate change for the first time in decades. That’s why we gotta win this as that hurricane bears down on Florida,” she argued. “We gotta win in the midterms.”

The implication being made by the senator was that the watered-down version of “Build Back Better” dubbed the “Inflation Reduction Act,” which accomplished neither of those claims, would somehow prevent future hurricanes from occurring through its promotion of electric vehicles and the subsidization of progressive pet projects.

As Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R-Fla.) rapid response director Christina Pushaw put it, “So the ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ didn’t stop inflation, but she expects us to believe it will stop….hurricanes?”

Yeah, as implausible as it sounds, Klobuchar said it with a straight face, but her lack of tact did not go unnoticed as radio host Dana Loesch was just one of many to call her out.

“The new science: so the hurricane is punishing Floridians for voting Republican, not because it’s a seasonal event and had been since before this grift. Nice sentiment [Klobuchar] as people are fleeing inland and praying they don’t lose their homes,” she tweeted.

Klobuchar’s suggestion that voting for Democrats to prevent hurricanes faced stiff competition from Biden for the most out-of-touch advice for the day as the president took the time to remind citizens in states “where hurricanes often strike like Florida or the Gulf Coast or into Texas, a vital part of preparing for hurricane season is to get vaccinated now.”

Of course, to really send home the message that Democrats’ true concerns rested with their politics and not with the people they represent, the Jan. 6 committee announced “In light of Hurricane Ian bearing down on parts of Florida, we have decided to postpone tomorrow’s proceedings. We’re praying for the safety of all those in the storm’s path.”

Though they certainly had better optics than Klobuchar or Biden, the truth of their motivation was not long to follow when PBS Newshour correspondent Lisa Desjardins posted, “Confirmed from mult. sources involved: The J6 Committee had multiple concerns w/ *Hurricane Ian* and timing tomorrow.”

“One was Rep. Murphy and her district,” Desjardins wrote. “The second was that cable news would be more focused on hurricane coverage through the day.”
