CA electric car owners told not to charge vehicles due to heatwave immediately after announcing 2035 ban on gas cars

California’s Governor Gavin Newsom has put green insanity on full display telling electric car owners not to charge their vehicles due to a heatwave just weeks after announcing a ban on gas cars in 2035.

Of note, the so-called “record heatwave” hitting the west is not out of the ordinary by any means – it’s called “summer.” Newsom’s knee-jerk order is a taste of what Americans can expect under a totalitarian-style green energy mandate by leftist bureaucrats.

The California Air Resources Board voted to ban gas-powered vehicles by 2035 just a few weeks ago. It is a move to force the state’s vehicle owners to convert to electric cars which not only damage the environment but leave residents vulnerable to the diktats of liberals.

The California Independent System Operator (ISO), which is a nonprofit that handles the state’s power grid, issued a heat bulletin on Tuesday warning of “extreme heat” during Labor Day weekend that “is likely to strain the grid with increased energy demands.” They expect to call upon residents to take voluntary measures to reduce power consumption, including taking a break from “using large appliances and charging electric vehicles.”

“Lowering electricity use during that time will ease [the] strain on the system, and prevent more drastic measures, including rotating power outages,” the bulletin threatened.

“California is now telling people to ‘avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles‘ from 4-9pm. This from the same state that’s going to force everyone to buy electric cars by 2035,” House Republican Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) tweeted in response. “This is what Democrat control looks like—and they want it nationwide.”

Robby Starbuck, who is a former Republican congressional candidate in Tennessee, wrote, “This comes days after California became the first state to ban gas cars by 2035 which means massive pain for the grid there when everyone is forced to drive only electric cars. Toddlers could run a state more competently than Democrats.”

California is leading the progressive world by being the first to enforce a ban on the sale of new gasoline cars by 2035.

Auto manufacturers are now required to reduce the number of gas-fueled cars they sell in order to reach the first quota of the plan that mandates 35 percent of new cars, SUVs, and small pickups sold in California by 2026 to be zero-emission vehicles according to the Daily Mail. That quota will increase every two years.

Aside from rationing energy needed to charge electric cars, there is a severe shortage of charging stations across California as well. The state will need 2.1 million by 2030 to meet demand. Over 73,000 public and shared chargers have been installed so far, with an additional 123,000 planned by 2025. It falls way short of the goal of 250,000 chargers.

John Bozzella, president and CEO of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, noted know a statement, “Whether or not these requirements are realistic or achievable is directly linked to external factors like inflation, charging and fuel infrastructure, supply chains, labor, critical mineral availability and pricing, and the ongoing semiconductor shortage.”

“These are complex, intertwined, and global issues,” he added.

Then there’s the issue of the power grid. Officials do not seem to have a plan to enhance or harden it.

Newsom has proclaimed the move to all-electric vehicles as being “groundbreaking.” California is investing $10 billion to go green. He went on to ludicrously claim that the transition would make it “easier and cheaper for all Californians to purchase electric cars.”

The average price for a new electric vehicle in the US is $66,000, which is more than a 13 percent increase year over year, compared to the $43,338 for gas cars according to the Daily Mail.
