ESPN analyst takes exception to ‘Mount Rushmore’ term, says the monument built ‘on top of dead bodies’

ESPN analyst Jalen Rose took aim at one of America’s most enduring and beloved symbols when he called for the cancelation of Mount Rushmore as a reference to greatness, suggesting that the iconic South Dakota monument is racist and saying that it was built “on top of dead bodies” of Native Americans.

In a rant posted to social media, the “woke” former NBA star compared the majestic sculpture of four of the nation’s greatest presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt who are carved into the granite face of the mountain, to the two historic professional sports franchises that have caved to the cultural cleansers and changed their “offensive” nicknames.

“Why do you think Washington changed their name from Redskins? I do a show and didn’t say that word for eight years and my cohost David Jacoby, we both said ‘they’re gonna change the name one day,” Rose began. “Why? Because it’s offensive. What about the Cleveland Indians? Same thing. Why did they change the name? Because it’s offensive.”

“Can we retire using ‘Mount Rushmore?” Rose asked of his followers, “That should be offensive to all of us, especially Native Americans, indigenous people who were the first people here before Christopher Columbus, that land was stolen from them when it was discovered that it contained gold.”

“And 25 years later, to add insult to injury, four American presidents were put on what we call Mount Rushmore on the top of the dead bodies that is buried right underneath,” he added.

“So, I call for you and for myself — I’m owning this, too — let’s stop using the term ‘Mount Rushmore’ when we’re talking about our favorite rappers, talking about our favorite movies, talking about our favorite players,” he said. “I know you gonna see this video, and I know you gonna take action.”

Twitter users reacted to the latest in an ever-growing collection of idiotic statements by Rose.

ESPN – a network that once focused exclusively on sports content – was at the forefront of the pressure campaign that was ultimately successful in forcing the D.C. NFL franchise to change its “racist” nickname to Commanders, the team had been known by its former name since it was the Boston Redskins, before relocating to the nation’s capital in 1937.

Similarly, the Cleveland Indians who bore their own “offensive” nickname of Indians since 1915, made the change before the current MLB season, three years after the scalping of the beloved mascot “Chief Wahoo” who was banished in 2019.

Mount Rushmore is perhaps the mother of all monuments that are hated by the statue-toppling, leftist cultural revolutionaries and may itself one day be canceled if Democrats are able to cement their one-party rule in perpetuity.
